RECENT NEWS
The end of the school year is approaching very quickly. At this
time of year we begin to take stock of classroom books and and
we find ourselves a little short in some areas. Please check
under beds and in old backpacks for classroom readers and 5th
grade Math Reference books.
On Friday May 16th, the 5th graders will be presenting their
portfolios to parents- see the schedule below. This presentation
is an important part of your child's career at Schoolcraft Learning
Community and we hope you will make every effort to attend. These
portfolio presentations are part of what determines your child's
passage to 6th grade. The 4th graders will be part of a French
immersion day and will attend school as usual on the 16th. The
5th graders have the option of being part of the French experience
or coming into school at the scheduled time to present their
portfolio. If you are unable to attend, your 5th grade student
will present to staff members on May 16th and they will need
to be in school the entire day. Please let us know if there is
a time that would work better for you.

~ Hilary and Judy
My name is Hilary Phukan and I teach 4th and 5th grade at Schoolcraft
Learning Community. I have been teaching at Schoolcraft since
the first day it opened. It has been an amazing experience to
be part of the growth of a school. I love working with all the
students here and feel very fortunate to be able to share my
days with them.
I was born and raised in England and it was there I had my first
teaching position. I then came to the United States to work on
a masters program at Illinois State. It was there I met my husband,
we got married, and moved to Bemidji. While my children were
young I stayed at home with them and then returned to teaching
when my youngest was in 3rd grade.
When I am not in school, my family and I enjoy travelling. We
usually spend part of our summer in France and visit England
at least once a year. I have been very fortunate to be able to
spend some very memorable vacations in many parts of the world
with my husband and two daughters. We also enjoy gardening and
cooking. We try to duplicate some of the wonderful foods we have
tasted around the world.
