Happy New Year!
January is one of my favorite months. Every week is full of celebrations oflearning, where students are presenting their completed products and projectsfrom their expeditions. As I write this, the first grade crew is showing middleschoolers all about where their food comes from, how food is processed, vitamins and minerals that we get from eating healthy, and other Food for Thought topics. This month, we have also seen the middle schoolers present their learning on World Conflict, and the fourth and fifth graders present on Colonial America. Last month, the second and third grade discussed their study of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, and still to come is the Kindercrew expedition "Knowing Where We're Going," which is an introduction to our community, our values, the people and places that they will see on their journey here. Our scholars are quite accomplished, deep thinkers, and I?m so impressed and proud of them!
This month we also had our very first Community Crew meeting. This Crew meeting was an opportunity for our entire community to be together and learn about Caring, one of our Habits of Scholarship. The crew meeting was lead by a group of 7th and 8th grade student leaders, advised by Caige, Stacy, Kendra,Theora, and Jake. This is a GREAT group of kids and they put on a really fantastic community crew meeting. Ask your student how they are showing caring to each other! Looking ahead, over the next two weeks, students in grades 1-8 will have STAR math and STAR Reading tests. These are benchmark exams, meaning that they help us know how each of our students is doing towards grade level standards. This helps us hone in on needed skills and content to make sure ourscholars are prepared for the next step. Please make sure your child is present and well-rested!
Lastly, I wanted to plug our new app! Schoolcraft has an app that you can download through the Apple Store or Google Play. You can use this to contact us, check out our calendar, check the menu, and receive notifications about things happening around school. Search for Schoolcraft Learning Community; and please give us feedback on how it's working for you.
As we move into the second half of our year, I want to thank you all for sharing your families with us. Schoolcraft is a rich, diverse, and vibrant community, and it's all thanks to the people who matriculate with us. I hope that if you have any questions or concerns you will seek me out via email, phone, orstopping into the office.
As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns...Adrienne Eickman - Director and Lead Learner - firstname.lastname@example.org
